ERIK SATIE

Yo yo yo, what's good, fam, hold up, hold up, I'm Erik Satie, the piano-tickling oddball from Honfleur who wrote the Gymnopédies, so pull up a chair, bruh! Lemme tell ya, I'm about to spill the whole story of my life, no filter, no cap, from my wild kid days to my last breath, and trust me, it's a ride and a half, deadass! So are ya curious about the man behind the music, the weirdo behind all that dreamy, slow-drip magic, or what?

Born By The Sea, Booted By The School
Yo yo yo, buckle up, fam, 'cause I popped out on 17 May 1866 in Honfleur, Normandy, a sleepy seaside spot, and I swear the seagulls were already judging me! My dad Alfred was a shipping broker, my mom Jane was English with Scottish roots, and then boom, she was gone in 1872 when I was just six, which hit me like a truck, dude! My brother and I got shipped right back to our grandparents in Honfleur, so I was a little sad noodle in a sea town, no joke, no joke! Then I hit the Paris Conservatoire from 1879 to 1882 and they kicked me out as an unsatisfactory pupil, bruh, like, rude much?!Dropping Tunes Like A Slow-Motion Mic Drop
Okay so check it, I did military service in 1886 and got sent home with bronchitis, 'cause apparently my lungs said peace out, lol! Then 1888 rolls around and my first Gymnopédie lands in a magazine called La Musique des familles, and yo, a family magazine, fam, wild! I wrote the Gymnopédies and the Gnossiennes between 1888 and 1890, chillin' like a cat on a warm radiator, super lazy-cool, zero stress! Folks were like "huh, what is this weird floaty stuff?", and I was like "yep, that's the sound of me not caring, baby!"Piano Guy In The Hill Of Smoke And Giggles
Paris, dude, Paris! I was grinding in Montmartre, playing piano in cabarets like Le Chat Noir and Le Lapin Agile, and yeah, that's how I paid the rent, for real! Picture a smoky room, people clinkin' glasses, folks yellin' over each other, and me back there tinklin' the keys like a human jukebox, no lie! Honestly it was the best school ever, 'cause nothing trains ya like a crowd that totally ignores ya, ha! That Montmartre crowd was my gym, my stage and my snack bar, all rolled up in one loud, goofy, beautiful mess, you feel me?!The Slow Jam That Took Over Everybody's Brain
So if ya only know one tune from me, it's Gymnopedie No 1, and wow, what a vibe, bro, wow! It's just soft little chords wobblin' under a lonely melody, super simple, like a sleepy cloud doin' yoga, I'm not even kiddin'! Claude Debussy liked it so much that he orchestrated the first and third Gymnopédies, so yeah, a big-shot composer straight up borrowed my homework, hilarious! Put it on when you're stressed and watch your shoulders melt down to your sneakers, guaranteed, zero refunds!Seven Suits, One Church, Zero Chill
Alright, here's where I get properly weird, 'cause between 1893 and 1895 I founded and led my own church, the Église Métropolitaine d'Art de Jésus Conducteur, and yep, I was the boss of it, obviously! Before that I was composer to Joséphin Péladan's Rosicrucian Ordre de la Rose-Croix, which sounds like a secret club for wizards, and honestly I'm here for it! In 1895 a small inheritance landed in my lap and I bought seven identical suits, 'cause why waste brain power on picking outfits, right?! Oh, and I drank heavily my whole life, which, big yikes, kids, don't copy that part, seriously! The Hermit Of Arcueil Goes Back To Class
In 1898 I bounced out of the big city to Arcueil, south of Paris, and I stayed there until the day I died, no cap, my forever crib! Then in 1905 I enrolled at the Schola Cantorum in Paris, yup, a grown man goin' back to school, 'cause I wanted to level up my skills, fam, how wild is that?! I finally checked out on 1 July 1925 in Paris, aged 59, from cirrhosis of the liver, and man, that's way too early, it still stings! They laid me to rest in Arcueil, my little hometown by choice, so I never really left, ya dig?!Couch Music And A Riot, What A Combo
Ayo, I coined the term "musique d'ameublement", furniture music, meaning background tunes that just chill there like a comfy sofa, and I basically invented elevator vibes, you're welcome, world! Then Parade in 1917, a team-up with Diaghilev, Jean Cocteau and Pablo Picasso, and its opening night caused a riot, a straight-up riot over a ballet, can ya believe it?! The young French composers called Les Six looked up to me like I was their weird, wise uncle, and that totally made my day, bro! Some folks say I was a precursor of minimalism, and maybe so, but that's up for debate, so don't @ me, ha!My Gift To Your Ears, No Wrapping Paper
So here's what I'm handin' ya, friend: a little pocket of quiet in a world that never shuts its yap, free of charge! Slide on Gymnopedie No 1, close your eyes, and let those slow notes wash over ya like a warm bath for your brain, mmm, so good! You don't gotta know a single thing about classical music, 'cause the only rule is breathe, chill and let your thoughts wander off for a snack, easy! And if you giggle a bit while you're floatin' there, perfect, 'cause I always wanted my music to be both dreamy and kinda goofy, deadass!---
